Bevonomics for Longhorns!!!

Do you wish you knew more about basic budgeting, saving money, repaying student loans, or investing?   Do you ever wonder where you can get information on selecting employer benefits on your first job, buying your first car, or protecting yourself against identity theft?  Well, wish and wonder no more! 

 The Office of Student Financial Services has partnered with Heidi Toprac, lecturer in McCombs Finance, to offer various workshops that provide information and tools to learn how to make financially responsible decisions and reduce your by expanding understanding of the importance of managing money on a day-to-day basis.

 Workshops are FREE for any UT student, faculty, or staff member, are an hour in length, and are held in the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS).   Here are the topics covered:

 Bevonomics 101: The Art of Spending and Saving Like a College Student
Basic but thorough information about creating and using a daily budget, discuss Needs vs. Wants, money-saving ideas, how to maintain and grow a savings account, and wise use of credit.

Bevonomics 301: Managing Credit
Credit, long-term savings, credit score, credit history, and purchasing power: all of this and more is explained in a common-sense and practical format. You’ll never forget the power of compounding interest!
             
Bevonomics 302: Understanding Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds
Learn the basics of investing: different types and risk levels of investments, goal-setting with your investments, positives and negatives of short- and long-term investments, and more!
 
Bevonomics 303: Repaying Student Loans
What happens to your student loans after you graduate? Review of federal, state, and private loans and the repayment options available. Discussion of consolidation and serialization, as well as regulations about forbearance, in-school deferment, and loan forgiveness programs.
 
Bevonomics 304: Guide to Renting and Living in Austin
Prepare for the additional expenses of living off-campus, overview areas of town popular with students, and suggestions for basic household supplies. Legal Services for Students co-presents on the rights and responsibilities as a tenant in Texas.
           
Bevonomics 305: My First Job (selecting employer benefits)
An overview of the decisions you will make regarding a full-time job: comparing job offers, choosing from insurance, retirement plans, and employee benefits available through your future employer.
 
Bevonomics 306: Identity Theft
An effort to help your protect yourself from becoming a victim of one of the fastest growing crimes in the country, this workshop focuses on protection against identity theft, tips to reduce the likelihood of being a victim, and steps to recover from identity theft.  
 
Bevonomics 307: My First Car
Be prepared when you go to the dealership! Learn the basics of researching the right car for you, New vs. Used, the real cost of owning a car, financing, and car insurance.
