Equal Justice Center (EJC) is a private, non-profit, public-interest law firm located in Austin, which represents low-income working men and women to recover unpaid wages, regardless of their immigration status. EJC’s executive director, Bill Beardall, also serves as clinical professor of the University of Texas School of Law’s Transnational Worker Rights Clinic, through which law students work alongside EJC staff attorneys. ***NOTE***: Spanish fluency is required for this position.
EJC is seeking motivated, bilingual, public-interest-minded individuals to serve as our first contact with potential clients. The primary duties of the position are to screen and conduct telephone interviews with the numerous workers who contact EJC seeking legal assistance, and to assist EJC staff attorneys to analyze the workers’ legal needs and available remedies.
Must speak Spanish; commit to 10-15 hours a week; applicant is strongly encouraged to submit internship for academic credit; commitment of at least one semester.
The position will provide substantial on-the-job training in subjects including labor and employment law, contract law, litigation practice, and public interest advocacy.
